I was watching 3 of the local Hedgehogs in my garden last night.  One was stuffing his face in the feed bowl, another had rolled into a ball as he/she was being bullied and the 3rd was having a drink of water.

There were at least 4 or 5 slugs lounging around and not one Hog even looked at them.  There were also several Frogs which had come out of the pond and I didn't see them take much notice of our slimey friends eitherimage

maybe because u feed them something much nicer that slugs haha. is why the are full and i hard not sure if right.. that certain slugs.. nothing will touch them at all.

  • Hmm think I will stick to hunting them down at night and tying them up in poo bags image

Leaving that salt where dogs can reach it could be life threatening to them - they are attracted to salt, and it can result in a slow and ugly death....not sure how it may affect other animals  image

its not left where dogs can get it.. it just there so i could photo it. it sits up on top the side shed roof. i have not had any probs with animals. but i dont have any. and neighbours cats dont seem bothered by it.

one in garden under bushes. doesnt seem to bother them either. butas i say i dont have animals..

it works for some and not for others. all things have to be trial and error

Tetley. no u are so right to make aware.. .. and im lucky in sense where i live only one cat down lane. i think railway line all way along back stops them coming over and cliffs at front stop any. and most have dogs.. that cant get in my garden and shouldnt if on leads.

but i have read up and made sure on other animals.. as u say it is a serious danger to them  and i am looking into another place for one in bushes also. or may remove it altogether. but i wont stop one on roof as birds use it as feed station. image

Green fingered finch. can u not put them out somewhere else for the birds to eat. i feel that killing of snails in our garden has been part blame for decline in thrushes over the years. :(

  • gardeningfantic, that would be ideal but as others have said previously, the birds and frogs seem to have little interest in eating them. And anyway I'm sure there are thousands more that I don't manage to catch for them to dine on!
