Pete8, I'm in Essex too but we've had plenty of rain and it's pouring as I write this. There has been some sun between the showers and my poor son in law and grandson are desperately trying to get hay cut, turned, baled and stored. The weather forecasters have spectacularly failed to tell us what's actually going to happen which doesn't help
The weather is driving me nuts. Half an hour ago I was outside, in bright sunshine, unwinding seeper hose of all things. Then the sky went black and I just got back inside in time to avoid an absolute downpour
My missus hung some towels out to dry on Monday morning and left me strict instructions to bring them in as soon as they were dry. They're still out!!!!
We're going away for a week from this Saturday and the forecast is for dry, warm weather next week. I have to assume it's right which is the reason for the seeper hose. I've put in a lot of new plants this year and can't afford to risk them drying out while we're away. My neighbour used to water the garden for us when we were away, and we did it for him. Sadly he died in January.
This ghastly weather is even affecting the greenhouse plants. I normally have huge tomato plants and need a machete to cut my way through to the far end of the (short) edifice but this year the plants are weedy and very much below par. The sungold are more like beads than cherries. Young plants outside are being battered to death by the wind.
Did all my washing yesterday, it was lovelly, couple of little showers, Hubby cam home from work about 40 miles away, said it had rained all day.Just had a teensy weesny shower, now the sun is back out, checked pots, they are very dry.
Hosta - I think you'll just have to build your own Eden project if you want more, reliable heat...
KT53 - know what you mean about washing! Hung stuff out this morning, it heaved with rain then the sun came out. When I came home from work it was about the same as when I hung it out. Fortunately, it cleared up this afternoon so I think it might be dry now....
I use three forecasts for walking. The day before you're going, you take the best one of the the three, pick a suitable hill in that area, then take every conceivable type of clothing for every type of weather (maybe not the crampons just now..) and then you're sorted!
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Fairygirl, I think a wetsuit would be the best type of clothing this summer...
I'm in Herts and it's been wet and cold since, well, late February or so. It didn't rain yesterday, but the wind was cold and there was a very autumnal feel to the day. I wouldn't mind that, I like autumn, only I haven't had any harvest at all from my allotment yet, so I don't want to skip summer completely! (It's my first allotmenteering season, so you can imagine my frustration.)

Too late KT - some foliage already turning here, and cotoneasters getting 'berried' ...

Love autumn too Fairy but need some sun and heat for the sweet peas and lilies to open their buds
In spite of all the rain, I have just come in from watering some pots.

just googled Carol Kirkwood.
We could certainly do with more sunshine here in Devon. More totally rain free days and a lot more heat.
