A first for the garden and only my second ever sighting.
A Hummingbird Hawk Moth graced the Verbena Bon this evening, such a pleasure to watch, just wish I had videoed it instead of trying to take pictures with the phone.
Either way I was over the moon just watching it.
A shockingly bad image by my standards which will have to make do as a record shot.
Think I might be camped out by the Verbena this weekend with the camera.
I so want a humming bird hawkmoth. We have had privet, elephant and poplar hawkmoths, and I have left the common valerian and other floring weeds all over the place. My mum had one on a fuchsia in a hanging basket.
Here are some pics of my frogs that my six year old neighbours took. We are practising using bridge cameras. We practised tickling them behind the ears. (The frogs, not the cameras). They were thrilled when it worked - the frogs don't jump away. We felt blest that the frogs just sat on the rocks for hours, while we looked at the patterns and the eyes and tickled them and photographed them and they didn't seem to mind; They swam and sun bathed and 'enjoyed the evening'. Which is to say, the frogs didn't disappear in disgust.
It's nice to have lots of frogs this year in such a small pond (bucket). I love that the faces look like they have been dipped in shiny gold paint. So reflective.
Of course, I love all this as much as the children. The next project is spiders.
@Sheps I have seen my first hummingbird hawk moths this year too. First in a neighbour's front garden (I bet they thought I was a right weirdo gasping in their garden) and a couple of days ago on my verbena. I was out like a shot with the camera but still missed it 😖

Not for one minute did I ever expect to find one in the garden, so you never know what will turn up.
