    Really good images everyone 👍

Great to see the Coyote @CrankyYankee

And your Oystercatcher @LunarSea is a superb image, especially with the breaking wave.

I love that the oyster catchers look like marionettes to me.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Sadly I didn't manage to grab a picture, but I saw my first leucistic squirrel on this morning's dog walk.

Does anyone know what is going on here? It's a patch in the forest that is clearly being used by deer, probably roe although there are some red around but very few in this particular area. There are also boar but I don't think it's them.

This is the general area, a pond in the background and then muddy areas. Lots of footprints but not much evidence of flattened or lain on mud.

Most of the nearby trees are like this

So muddied up at the base and up the trunk, some but not all have damage to the bark, presumably chewed or rubbed by antlers. The trees are almost all spruce.

I am guessing it's parasite related, my husband thinks antlers. Does anyone know?

Not boar rubbing against the bark, wallowing and rootling in the mud?
  • It's possible but I don't think so. The footprints could be either to my untrained eye, but although we've frequently seen deer there we've not see evidence of boar. They usually leave a trail of destruction, whereas around the muddy area there was leaf litter disturbance but done more gently. The bark damage is also too high for boar.

    I think...
