Thanks Chicky! To me though, that still looks more pink/cerise than the one I saw :-(

I should say, it is really pretty though. Are cosmos easy to grow from seed? When should one sew the seeds?

Probably my camera wakeshine - its pretty red in the flesh.  I sow Cosmos seeds on a windowsill in mid March/early April - they are pretty easy, so long as you pinch them out a lot to stop them getting leggy

They are really easy. This year I have grown the new yellow ones too and they are also easy, but I find that slugs love the flower buds. They looked great in the greenhouse, but they are struggling to flower now and I am picking off masses of slugs. Has anyone else had this problem?

Not yet Posy - but I found a 2" long slug 6' up my (upstairs) bedroom wall this morning (inside not outside) image

No idea how it got there - maybe the cat brought it in - will have to ask him image

Oooh, lovely! At least it wasn't on the pillow.....

  • I'm growing a really dark red cosmos called Casanova Red. I've had one flower so far, lots of buds coming I'll post a pic when they come out. Label says they grow to 3 feet.  There's no hint of pink in the colour at all, i would call them burgundy.

i have one from a mixed (dwarf) packet that is burgandy, anooyiong really as I only wanted white and paler pink and that's what the pack showed, everyone says they're easy but I haven't done well this year, slugs and snails eaten 75% of what I started with

I look forward to the pictures Nut. Sorry to hear about peoples' slugs. Thanks Rosemummy. I might not bother tryin to grow them next year then...fed up of the battle with slugs and only planning to go for slug proof flowers next time! luckily my dahlias and snflowers still thrived after slug attack but my several of my French marigolds havent. it's a bad year for slugs...
