If you want a similar effect but with less outlay and maintenance, do what I do and buy some Hebes - Vernicosa or Buxifoilia (clue's in the title of that one!)
They need very little effort and grow in a natural dome shape
They also have the benefit of small flowers (white/pale lilac) at this time of year which bees love.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I was looking in a garden centre at box the other day and they seemed to have a powdery mildew on them. Is this normal, or would this be the start of box blight ? I'm sure it couldn't be as othewise the nursery wouldn't be selling them, but thought I'd ask.
Also Lilly Pilly I think you missed a 1 off that number, round here for a 5litre pot they are £20, i was thinking myabe your figure should have been £145 for one that size. They aren't cheap.
Fairygirl- what a good idea. I wonder if you could tell me please. Would i be safe to plant a hebe near a building? Do you think they have big roots? Thanks

Box would be my best guess too. You'd need a lot of patience and a keen eye to keep them pruned as neatly as the ones in your photo though.
Yup, looks lone box to me. It's obviously disease free so possibly one of the new strains
