Thanks all, using ref pictures of snowberry I think that is it. The reason that I thought it was knotweed is the rate it is growing and spreading so I'll be keeping it in check!
You don't have knotweed there. I have just spent 5 years eradicating the stuff from my garden so have had to develop something of a keen eye. Can't wait for Aphalara Itadori to get to West Yorks and start cowing down on the local k-weed.
I have both, unfortunately, which I am battling with! The snowberry covered half the front garden when I moved in to my house here in Wuppertal, Germany, and only through bulldozing the main area was I able to get rid of a lot of it but it keeps coming back!
The Japanese knotweed is only, thank goodness in one part of the garden but it is also outside in the hard-packed "pavement" which I have to constantly attack and clear. In Germany, it is not being treated as an invasive plant - which I find unbelievable - and owing to the environmental regulations you can't use any kind of pesticide in public areas.
Any tips anyone on how I can otherwise rid myself of it besides being vigilant?
That is unbelievable! Personally, I would gather evidence - maybe from UK press/articles etc about people having to declare it on their land when selling houses/photos of it coming up inside houses/houses not selling due to it, the fact that it compromises building foundationsetc etc. It might do no good but worth a try? As for not using weedkiller on it - I am speechless!
