it certainly looks like japanese knotweed i'm affraid.
I think it could be snowberry. Symphoricarpos alba.
I don't think it's knot weed, knot weed has red stems and the leaves don't look quite right.
I am with fritillaries post I to think it's symphocarpus ( snowberry )
symphocarpus does Have a dendancy to sucker and will pop up here and there, it's quite a nice shrub and has lovely berries later on.
It's picture 3 that makes me go towards knotweed. Time will tell.
Thanks all!
I've just googled snowberry and it does look like it and it does look like a nice shrub so here's hoping! I will compare the plant to images on the net when I get home......
great news then!! and the birds love snowberry Win Win
Certainly not Knotweed. This site gives diagnostic features and Ian's plant is quite different. It doesn't have zig-zag syems, the leaves are paired, and they don't have a shield shape with a flat base.

i have snowberry and its a bit of a pain. I find shoots coming out 6ft across the garden. I'm trying to get back towards the boundary, so keep an eye on it. I think the white berries are poisonous too, so just keep an eye on that if you have children, pets...
But at least it isn't knotweed
I have it too.Snowberry. Bit invasive but it looks pretty with all the berries on.
I think it is Honeysuckle, Japanese Knotweed has red stems and bigger leaves
