  • We recently moved into a property in September. The garden was pretty bare but since the summers come in we've started getting all sorts growing in from a field just out the back. Anyone able to confirm if this is Japanese imageimageKnotweed? image

no, that's another invasive alien weed. Himalayan Balsam. Annual, spreads by seed, not root

  • Thanks Nutcutlet,

theres a little river burn that runs past it also. I'll just have to keep on top of it then. At least I know now, it's not as serious as what I thought. Thank you!

Michael mpc: Sounds like it could be bindweed.

Have a look on google images to see if it matches your invading plant.

Sounds very like bindweed to me. I keep leaning over the fence at the bottom of my garden and chopping away at the bottom of the neighbours bindweed, which seem about to encroach on my Clematis Montana. there are leylandii in the garden and they cannot see this stuff romping away. Naughty I know.
