We have a member returning to our sewing group who has said she can run a class for us later on in the year. Just wondering what sorts of things you can do with it.

I haven't needlepointed in ages, but the nicest piece I ever did was a Persian carpet pattern I found in a book shortly after my family returned to the States after a military tour of duty in Teheran (I was age 10-12). Dad was USAF stationed there, teaching their then fledgling Iranian air force how to fly F-84 and F-86 fighter jets. The Shah was still in power back then (I'm telling my age here). My parents thought the needle project way over my head, but years later, I tackled it one summer. It's 2'x3' so I had to work or a floor quilting rack as they don't make needlepoint frames that large. It was back breaking, but I finally finished it by the end of that summer. My father was so pleased when I showed it to him he framed it for me that year for my Christmas present:
@PeggyTX That is an amazing piece of work! You must have lots of patience to have completed that. It really is beautiful and I am sure it will become a family heirloom.
Thank you both for your kind words. it is done in Persian wool thread in tent stitch. The minarets I used a metallic thread as to give them the look of brass. But you have to be standing up fairly to it to see that metallic effect. I would have preferred it not be covered with non-glard glass, but was afraid of moths getting after the wool yarn.
One of my winter projects is to create a shoal of fish ornaments for the garden. I’ve finished my first fish (made out of stonecast plaster and varnished with plastikote) but I’m now worried about it being damaged by frost. Is there a product that I could use to completely seal it and make it frostproof? Is plastikote varnish enough?
