Hi Lily. The trick is just to go to the garden centre and buy one in a pot image I have NEVER succeeded and all the time effort and expense in my attempting made me finally admit defeat.

My parsley is a bit hit and miss too, but I have learned that shade and moisture are helpful, and also that the plants do better when they are spaced out - three or four single plants, well spaced, will give you more than a tightly packed row.

I just buy a pot from Aldi and stick it in my herb planter, and it grows away well.

Last year I sowed some parsley in a trough as a second crop to follow existing salad leaves growing in trough, nothing happened. This spring every parsley seed germinated, i have kept a dozen in pots. Maybe they need to be given time.

    Hi all

patience patience and a little more its sooooo frustrating

planted a modular tray and have got four plants from it which are being brought up at garden allotment.

Had a much better return last time I planted however if I keep these four plants and they get a good start the return will be fab.

This type is approx 20inches high flat leaf and really nice forgot name but will post picture give it a go it is worth it

I've always used the boiling water trick and it's always worked, even in poor soil.  However, I do agree that shade for the hottest part of the day and good watering regimen are essential.  I had to resow this year and it's going great guns; first row nearly ready to start harvesting as and when required and second row already 1.5 cm tall.

Would that I could do as well with the veggies...am about to post re my woes on this score!

  • Ha ha. I must be an honest housewife then, as i've never had any trouble growing it! ? On a south facing windowsill, just like tomatoes, peppers etc (It is slower to germinate though) I put 3 or 4 seeds in each module and thin to one. I transplant the modules 20 cm apart. I do 2 sowings a year for year round supply.

Ps: no seed genius here, i have been nurturing a pathetic single delphinium seedling for weeks to find out it was a tomato plant... ?
