  • I will give them a chance this winter then scroggin - do you get more flower heads from pinching out the growing tips?  This seems to be the case for most small plants when they are pinched.

  • Thanks for sharing Scroggin - they look like good strong plants with plenty of growth ready to give you a colourful display of flowers as the season stretches out. Did you sow the seeds in situ or into trays?

  • Yes, that is how I do mine too apart from the wild flower seeds which tell me to sprinkle them where I want them to grow - that is approx. April/May time. I love Wallflowers but the smell when they are in flower is too strong for me - same with Stock and quite a few other plants - I have to be careful what I plant - you can often hear me sneezing as I wonder around the garden - perhaps that is why the birds fly away when they see me! I have always had trouble growing Bellis - do you get slug attacks Scroggin?

  • Well done for persevering with the Bellis - I get very cross with slugs - I mean they lurk around just waiting for that lovely little plant that you have nurtured to be put in the soil and sure as eggs are eggs the slug will find it and make a right mess almost ruining your efforts.

I don't often have cut flowers in the house - they make me sneeze - although I seem to be alright with sunflowers, tulips and a few other flowers with low scent or none at all - I prefer house plants - I seem to be o.k. with them. I try to do most of my gardening in the mornings at this time of year when the scents are still waking up (bit like me really).
