I read in GW that it is now the time to start sowing seeds for next years' flower display. I thought that September was the time to do this (in a cold GH) - when would other people recommend is the best time?

Yes, those are some of the seeds that were suggested to sow now scroggin - primroses too, foxgloves was another nutcutlet. I did sow some foxglove, geum, aquiligia, teasel but in September last year and they all did very well - growing quickly and were ready to plant out by March/April this year. Did you sow your seeds in a greenhouse scroggin?
Ah, I thought that you would wait to plant them out in the following Spring scroggin - do you think you gain by planting them in September - you must be in a mild, sheltered spot - I would think that the slug would eat mine if I planted them out to over winter?
I wait till July to sow biennials for the following year but having said that foxglove seedlings are already germinating and popping up randomly on the allotment.

Here are some foxgloves that re-seeded last year Zoomer - in one of our wild areas which we very rarely do any work in hence the ivy and nettles

They look fab, I replanted the one's which sprung up last year into a nursery bed then replanted again in the autumn to their present bed. Ever so easy to weed out the one's you don't want.
Thanks Zoomer, yes, I must say that they are tough plants - easy to grow, and to be honest a good plant for children to sow too - a great starter - the bees love them too. I have a gorgeous peach coloured one in flower now - in a different area of the garden - took a picture to put on here but the peach colour just doesn't stand out and so the picture got discarded. However if I remember I will collect some seeds from it - although the seedlings don't always turn out to be the same as the parent plant, I gather.
