I took one of those potters around the garden to see if there was anything waiting to 'spring' into action daffs shooting up to four inches tall now, crocus popping up everywhere and even the snowdrops have started to show some green
One of my GOS lazy problem solving solutions has come back and bitten me in the bum tho... I decided to get rid of compost area as its just a corner to dump c**p, this thought was confirmed when I discovered that OH had put all his damp plaster and brickdust that he had been grinding from the basement walls..... so it was getting moved! Obviously not far, that would involve labour and effort.....I know! I'll just raise the level of the ground in the corner under the apple tree, me thinks! b****r! id forgotten that I'd planted a million different bulbs under there and now they are probably too deep to show! And probably going rotten under a mound of damp plaster and brickdust 'compost' mix
Unfortunately Hazel, its all too compacted now and there is so much of it that I think its beyond hope of trying to shift it. But I may have a fork around and see if I can find anything under there when I get some free daylight hours that aren't freezing or raining or both! ROLL ON SPRING!
The new job is going well thanks Hazel the people are lovely and although its not gardening, nor was the other one! Turned out to be far more manual labour than gardening, although I can now lay a patio and mix cement!
I'm so looking forward to when we can start posting pictures of bulbs flowering! That will make us all feel better!
Stuck my bare do it roses in a bucket of water three days ago. In attack of hubris, I thought that I would pot them up the next day. It was cold and I'd gone off the boil.. This morning, I decided to do the decent thing, went to get them out of the bucket and discovered they were frozen solid. I considered using a hair dryer, but put them in the porch instead. By late afternoon, they'd thawed out and I managed to get them out of the bucket. They've been planted in pots temporarily.
If they survive, I'll put them in the ground in the spring. I wish I'd left them safely in the box!
I think I'm running a close second to you - there's so much that needs doing out there - not least cutting back the perennials - but the goldfinches are still feasting on the rudbeckia seeds.
