Mathew Wilson getting a Lower medal than last time.

His reaction last year cracked me up.

Gotta say, the iPlayer coverage so far hasn't done a good job of actually showing the gardens

Its the 5th episode and I've only just seen Chris beardshaws garden.

Had to stop watching early on. I found the acid digs and interruptions of th bloke who wasn't Monty Don a bit disturbing. I can take MD or leave him but gardening to me is a source of peace and tranquillity.  The only digging I want to see is in the garden.

BTW who won best in show?

I have also realised that the Chelsea flower show isn't really about gardening, it's about designing with plants  nothing to do with me so I'm not going to worry about it.

    In London. Keen but lazy.

Just broken off from watching Chelsea to get away from JS!! for a few minutes.

Stupid question of the day so far from Nikki Chapman to man who had just received a Silver Medal "Were you trying for a Gold Medal?"  response "Of course I was".  I'd have loved it if he'd said "No, of course not.  I never try to be the best"

SJ at his arrogant, snarling worst.  Literally pushing the head judge away and turning his back on him whilst the conversation was still going on.

Deep breath and go back to watch some more!

Hello all only watching the evening shows and enjoying it

O/H watching Britains got Talent semi finals which last all week , will probably watch final on Saturdayimage

  • I'm fed up of watching the same footage repeated/same gardens. There must be so much more to Chelsea flower show that isn't being televised. 13episodes in 5 days repeating the same stuff is just getting boring - and gardening is my passion. I wouldn't mind 13episodes if it was on different areas of the show. Do we really need a programme repeating highlights now most viewers have iplayers etc?

Hello all , I have only watched the evening proggrames and enjoyed them

I voted for the Peoples Chioce garden - Yorkshire Garden - good choice , amazed it didn't get gold ?image

    See original post

I thought the guy who designed that garden was very careful with his words when talking about getting the Peoples Choice award.  He certainly seemed to suggest that the general population was more in touch with what he was doing than the Chelsea judges were.

I tend to agree with him.  I still can't understand how the block of stone with a garden hidden inside won anything!  Then again, I dont see pickled sheep or unmade beds as art either.  To me, if the meaning of something has to be explained in great detail, it's the 'something' which is missing the point rather than those viewing it!

There were various comments throughout the week ( I know Alex Polizzi was one who alluded to it), that these days it is all very "corporate", and I feel there is an element of the Emperor's New Clothes about some of it. I used to love watching it, but this year more than ever, I have found myself fast forwarding through vast chunks of my recordings. I was interested in Monty's comments as he always strikes me as someone who doesn't suffer fools gladly - he must have had to bite his tongue at times!!

Does anyone know the judges comments re: giving the Yorkshire garden "only" a silver medal?

I think I have come to believe that Chelsea is more  a luvvie fest these days with the corporate giants throwing money at Show Gardens to get their names in the spotlight - and am I being too cynical to be surprised that M&G Investments who support the show, got a Gold medal for their garden? Don't get me wrong, it deserved it, but if it had been the Yorkshire show garden, would that still have got Silver?
