Geum
in Plants
Our first Geum Mrs. Bradshaw flowers this year. I have grown a number of these plants from seed this year and I am pleased with the success of my seed collecting from last year's flower heads. Can Cooky & other Geum plants be grown from collected seeds?

Well done you!
I'd like to try getting seeds from flower heads this year. Do you have time to explain how you did it as I've never been sure what to do>
Don't forget that many of these are hybrids and do not always come true from seed. Having said that you may get something worth having from the seed sowing.
Ever the optimist I am hoping that the seeds will produce true replicas of the original plants Berghill. Nothing ventured ....... and all that. Thanks Yarrow2. Bearing in mind that I live in Guernsey - and have a cold GH to sow my seeds in. I just collected all the seed heads that I could find late last summer once the flowers had finished. I dried all these seeds in the GH & then sowed them into black module trays around October/November treating them just as I would with any other sown seeds from a packet. I think you have to be sure that the seeds are ripe and dry when picking them, dry them out more somewhere warm like infront of a window. Once sown don't over water them. I am sure other members will add extra helpful comments Yarrow. I also collected foxglove, hollyhock, sweat pea, honesty, zinnia, marigold, cosmos & melon seeds. The only ones that did not germinate were the melon seeds. It was fun to do and great to see the results.
I love the red on green of these Geum - I have gone a bit mad this year & planted about 20 around the garden - all grown from seed that I collected last Autumn.
Nice

Thanks GD2. I must save some seedheads this autumn and try. My favourites are 'Leonard's Variety' but they all seem to have disappeared this year and been overrun with my other favourite 'Lemon Drops'. My tall orangey ones I think were Princes Julianne from planting in 2012 - they are hugely tall, but a stunning colour. I've planted a couple of Lady Stratheden this year so will try also to get some seedheads from them. They haven't flowered yet.

Nice Yarrow - I too have Lady Stratheden - only planted a couple of weeks ago - but the flowers are almost open - I bought a couple of Cooky which have flowered recently. I don't know Princes Julianne but the colour is quite striking isn't it, or Leonard's Variety - I must look out for them next time I am at the GC. We have a plant sale to go to on Bank Holiday Monday - they have some less well known plants there - can't wait to see what is on offer this year!
My 3 geums are all in flower at the same time - red - Mrs J Bradshaw, yellow - Lady Stratheden and small orange Cooky. I love them - they are all so different & yet familiar too.

I've fallen in love with Geum. The 3 above are so pretty. My Mrs Bradshaw and Lady Stratcheden are in full flower. Don't have Cooky though. Need to get this one.
The Cooky is a smaller and much more delicate (in looks) plant which I got from B & Q just a couple of months ago - am very pleased with it. The Mrs. Bradshaw was grown from seed collected last year - and has come true to parent plant. Which varieties do you have Fluffy Cloud?
