Fixable or Rip it all out and start from scratch

Hi there,

I have a stoned area with plants in that gets full sun. It come over run with grass and weeds particually on one side as you can see in the picture. There is a plastic sheet not a membrane underneith but it has holes in it where plants have been and isnt over lapped very well.

Pulling the grass out is a nightmare i get blades not roots and has got worse since last year when it was manageable. I was considering digging it all out last year and feel i may now have to.

Should I...

Pull up all the stones and plastic get the grass an weeds and re cover again

Get up all the stones and just have soil which could be easier to manage

Or is there a product which I can use safely around the plants that will get the grass and weeds.

Your advice or recommendations will be much appreciated

    Do it by hand, with a weeder/ flat blade screw driver.

    Will take about 3 hours.

    Thanks darren ive been using a claw but that was just not working so will try the screwdriver and see how it goes
