Thank you everyone for your encouragement and best wishes.
This morning I had some tragic news. Some friends of ours had a car accident and ended up in their car in the river Dronne near Brantome. They were both drowned. They were a lovely couple, about 20 years older than me but full of life and enthusiasm. They came to lunch with us 2 weeks ago and we were going to lunch with them this Tuesday. They come here in the summer and live in England in winter.I was feeling quite shell shocked this morning. I don't know their family in England, I expect they will come here but they probably won't know who all the friends in France are.
My Open Garden was successful, I think. People were very nice about it. Someone said it was exquisite. The cake went down well. But it was very windy and cloudy. Lots of tea and coffee were drunk but not cold drinks. 54 people came, mostly English. Only one French man came despite all my advertising and talking to local French people.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
BusyL, that is such sad news. I'm so sorry to hear about your friends. I'm sure their family will try and keep everyone informed. Really sorry you had such sad news on a big day for you too. We know how MHC time trouble and effort you have put in. Nice to have so many people come and say such lovely things. I find locals are always the hardest to convince anywhere BusyL, I wouldn't take it personally, we have the same here. Hubby did a gig, a bus load of people from London came down for it but only a handful of local friends turned out...always the way! Well they missed out on your cake and lovely garden! Best wishes and hugs x
What a shocking start to your day Busy. I'm so sorry. Virtual hugs all round.
Pleased for your Open Garden day success. Pity about the locals but it is Mothers' Day and I expect they were busy with that. Today has been very quiet - no walkers, no cyclists, no car or motor bike rallies or speedsters whizzing by. All having lunch with ma.
I hope you can have a bit of a rest tomorrow before you have to prepare your presentation.
Been warm and sunny here but set to get cooler and wet and windy again by tomorrow evening. I have done nothing much all day except snoozle and cuddle dogs and cook a roast lamb dinner.
Both dogs have been rolling in duck poo on our lawn - courtesy of the pair nesting in our pond - and needed a bath and then we cleaned Rasta's ears with solution so she's all pristine for the vet to remove her stitches tomorrow. Clearly felt got at as she started limping again! Utter fraud. She'd been galloping along the upstairs landing 10 minutes before. Clown.

Another 1.5mm in rain gauge, Der. That's a total of 3m in two days. I could pi..le as much as that. Not very productive for two days of overcast, cold, windy days. The prediction was for 50-60mm. We haven't seen the sun at all.
My little mouse visitor in the GH has dug a few small holes in a couple of punnets that I planted seeds in. The trays of punnets now have a lid on them.
On the bright side, I've washed a bucket full of potatoes that I dug up a few days ago and cleaned out the bathroom cupboard so that Hubby can get into it to clean out the "U" bend and hopefully get an improvement in the sink emptying.
I'm going to knit, colour-in, and play jigsaw puzzles on the iPad for the rest of the day.
Beautiful morning here 13.8C was the lowest overnight temperature (yesterday it got up to 27.1C) and the tomatoes are romping away. I'll have to pot them on very soon.
The bluetit parents are popping in and out of the nestbox by the back door and the nestlings are chirping inside and the trees and hedgerows are full of birdsong.
BL ((hugs)) so sorry about your friends.
Lots to be done today, but not all in the garden ... I've a meeting down in Southwold with the vicar and I'm afraid that's going to take some time. Don't want to carp, but couldn't Ma have chosen a time of year when there's less to do in the garden???

Hi Dove. Isn't it always the way. My Mum was trying to hang on until my birthday and I said, so every year on my birthday, I will get sad because it'll be the anniversary of you dying. Poor old thing said oh, yes, didn't think of that. She died 2 days before my birthday - got to laugh or I'd cry.
Such sad news Lizzie - must have been so difficult having to plough on with your Open Day as normal having had a shock like that. ((Hugs)). And for you too Dove.
Blue tits nesting is exciting though
This brought me my first smile of the week, so thought I'd share
Happy Monday everyone ....sounds like that would be a good name for a band

Hello to anyone still awake. I've not long been awake and have read back three pages. You are all so busy. I can't imagine having that much energy.
BuzyL, such a sad thing to happen. Sorry for your loss.
Time to face the day - overcast and cold again.

Where are you Joyce? I was expecting to see something from you at 6 am. Also the other early birds are Dove and Chicky.
We'Ve got a horrible windy day here.
Good morning all
G'day Pat

Yep
At least Ma waited until two days after her birthday - not that the party was very lively
