I do accept that there are many reasons why you could/can complain and as many have already mentioned about quality/price does make a difference.
However if you are paying good cash for plant delivery they do need to be of a certain standard to actually plant.
I have over many years bought mail oredered perenial plants and have creased at what has been delivered however with a bit of TLC have nutured plants and have had many multiplications over many years from cuttings or root division.
Unfortunately suppliers are commercial companies that look for a profit and some a bigger one which the payer suffers for, so you do take your chance however once bitten never return. (its a pity we dont have a trip adviser for suppliers and like)
Any way i ordered 60 bare root rasps which worked out about 48p each and had a great success and have cuttings as new plants and can only prosper on the volume of return on fruit going forward
Well Verdun, i thought of it more as 'recycling', however if mine dont grow this year, next time i may ask him for some old cut off canes and make lots of cuttings; they may well do better than the ones i paid for This year!
That photo looks to have a reasonable root to me. If you wanted something that will produce fruit this year then bare-root is probably not the way to go but I'd expect growth from what you're showing me. An established plant is what £5-10 so a bare root can't have set you back more than a couple of pounds? I'm not sure it's worth sending back, the important point is really to get this potted; the new growth should be appearing imminently so if you're worried about a weedy root then all the more important!
