They numb the gum first so you don't even feel the needle going in any more. Sorry to disappoint the ghoulsimage You'll be fine.  If not - bite the dentist's thumb.

My appointment is 10.30 tomorrow.  Fingers crossed (or dentist's fingers may be for the chop) that all is painless.  Numb face afterwards though is a nightmare. Cup of tea:slurp, slurp, dribble slurp!

So, B3 (see what I did there?  sorry!) they numb the gum first.  Well, they try to.  But when it's a Buccal (sp) filling ie on the outside of the tooth near the gum, it's a bit more complicated.  And when they hit the nerve that shoots up the side of your nose ('cos the tooth in question is next to the canine) it's definite ouch.

On the plus side - my dentist is lovely, minimised any what he calls discomfort, and it was over in less than 15 minutes.  And (definite plus, this) there was no untoward suggestion of unwanted (!) behaviour image

On the downside - he's going back to South Africa.  Oh, no - who on earth am I going to trust now?

btw numbness wore off, tea was minimally slurped, and all is now well with the world.image
