Just found this thread, and anyone with a problem changing given names to nicknames should try my family. Dad is named Martyn and called Will, Mum named Melanie and called Peta, my name is Sarah, but during childhood I was called Mickey, which later changed to Susan at work. And then there are the grandparents, most notably Bessie called Queenie. It took me years to figure out Beatty and Trixie were the same person.
I don't have a problem with nicknames, but I do try to call people what they ask to be called.
My comment was in reply to B3 Brenda, whom I shall now address as B3, and unlearn her real name. Apologies for having initiated the confusion.
Yes. Now then. Either it's now, or it's then - can't be both at the same time. Maybe when northerners (amongst whom i normally live, so I must be careful) say it, they're addressing a domestic bird . Now t'hen?
