Hello I'm in the East Midlands - anyone else in this neck of the woods and brave enough to start planting out? Or do you think that the dreaded frosts will be back?

I only grow hardy stuff, they have to put up with what they get.

I can't see an end to it yet

In Nottingham I reckon mid May, but up in Mansfield or Ashfield, end of May. it is always 2 degrees colder at my mums than at mine.

I'm in the NW and planted spuds out afew weeks ago. Sunflowers have gone under cloches and pea's are taking their chances. I've nothing else hardy enough to go out yet, they were looking good this evening though despite a couple of cold nights.

I've had to sow most things in the GH and as it's on the allotment can't get down there everyday so the door has been left open at night. Seedlings are doing remarkably well considering we've has some hot days and cold nights.

I've read the above and thought about it, but can't work it out.  I know I'm a bear of very little brain - but how is your greenhouse contracting?

And to return (ish) to the subject, I don't know about your neck of the woods but just outside Liverpool and on the coast I'd be surprised if we had any more frost.  A mile or two inland and it's a different story.

Definitely back next week. I wouldn't place my bets much before the end of May. That's what I go by in the south.
