Half an hour of Monty and Nigel or 2 hours of snarling foul mouthed footballers A no brainer .Gardening is enjoyed by so many people good for the soul and body but as a hobby for mostly mature people we have no clout.Such a shame the BBC will always take the side of sports and ratings.
As both a life long Arsenal footy-fan AND a life-long viewer of GARDENERS' WORLD - ever since Percy Thrower, then Peter Seabrook, Mr Billit, the iconic Geoff Hamilton, Titchmarsh, Buckland and, again, Monty - I am resigned to the fact that the (educational) programme has been unceremoniously thrown on to the scheduling compost heap and then tossed around in the hope that it decay ungracefully. It will not. Whilst all the BBC Boffins attempt to create new 'reality' shows - and inevitably fail - it seems that the real 'reality' show, GW, continues as a perennial - "decadial", in fact, as it has been on TV since the 1960s - favourite. Over two million viewers on a Friday night at 20:30 tune in for advice, imagination, inspiration and escapism. Long may it grow defiant of the BBC 'bean-counters'.
