Feeding lilley of the valley

A friend of mine has lilley of the valley in pots, on her balcony. They are just starting to peep through, but wants to know should she feed them. I thought probably not now as it might promote leaf and not flower growth? Help would be welcomed, thank you.

    Mulch with decent compost.
  • Thank you Darren 636. Will pass this on but should she do this now? I have a sack of general compost I could give her a scoop from, would that be OK. Is a small solution of Tomorite suitable, as I know she has this.

    Do it now yes.

You might need to scrape some old soil away from from top of the pot to make room.

I bought some root cuttings, they have been potted up for about 3 weeks but not much sign of activity yet.

Hmm, temperamental then Verdun image Best moved out of the greenhouse?

  • Thank you for all the messages and I shall pass them on - and buy some lillies of the valley myself too I feel. I do so love the perfume.

Not in the greenhouse Fishy, they like cold.they take a couple of years to flower, but do make sure you slug proof them. My little shoots are just coming up now. They will get about six little slug pellets on them.,

That's interesting, Lyn, these are one of very few plants my slugs don't like. They grow like weeds in my damp, shady border and I have to pull out chunks, but I have never had any luck with them in my previous gardens.

Terrible here for slugs, I only grow them in pots now so I can use a few pellets on them.
