i bought some wood and we made a raised bed. I love it! looks fab and so much better than the ones I've bought ready done. First time going to a proper timber merchants. what a great place. So friendly and helpful. Love the characters that were in there too. It was like learning a new language. One old chap taught us that it's 2 'be' 4, and never 2 'by' four. Brilliant place. AND they sell compost.... Four 60l bags for £11! Bargain! It's by Dunstons who, we were told, are west country and very good. Bought 8 bags. Here is before and after...
Will be getting netting to grow the peas and beans up. Bit worried birds might fly into it so might get some kiddies windmill things to put on it for a bit until the plants get going.
Thanks Verdun. Yep, it was brill. I'll definately be going back. I actually like that it opens early on a saturday and closes at 12, and closed on a Sunday. Makes for having to be very organised. Guess I just like thing how they were when I was growing up.
Thanks Darren. We have so many birds here (our lane is called Sparrow Lane) that I'd hate for them to get tangled. We've had a few fly into the glass of the greenhouse so I have bunting that I hang in there now.

I went to my local nursery in fordingbridge,
Always great prices and less common varieties, such as clematis fargesiodes and ternifolia-- amongst the chaos !
Love their chicken manure pellets too
Lots of climbers , hostas , even apples trees
