Inconsistency with Nasturtium seed germination.

in Fruit & veg
Last year I sowed some Nasturtiums indoors. The whole lot failed to come through. Conversely another batch were ok (same brand different packet).
This year it is looking like another failure. Has anyone else had similar experience with this germination inconsistency?

I find that nasturtiums germinate perfectly easy sown where they are to grow. I never try to start them indoors. I sow in the ground outside mid to late April.
Hope that helps - good luck

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I agree.
In the sticks near Peterborough
Definitely sow outside where you want them
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Thanks for the advice, which seems to be consistent. You have me wondering now if the Nasturtiums have a preference for a cooler temp in respect of germination.
In one respect it would be easier to just sow the (quite large) seeds straight in to the garden. I often try to get ahead, and I like the idea of sowing individual seeds in to them small sized biodegradable pots. Once they are “on their way” I just get the trowel out and put the complete pot in to the border. I like the border to be impeccably weed free when I’m planting stuff out.
"Impeccably weed free" good luck with that one
Nasturtiums are one of those plants where nothing much is gained by individual sowing into pots. Sown direct, they'll germinate and grow on just as quickly as ones which are planted out. Saves a lot of faffing!

Those bio-degradeable pots don't seem to degrade for me
I find them as bad as the tea bags around plugs ......
I understand you wanting to codger I have done the same for time wise as have spring plants in now and not finalised summer bedding plan , try putting in cooler spot see if that works , I might put mine in pots as they seed like mad in pots or hanging baskets can only fall on solid surface ,
Weed free for two weeks B3
Me too, I just fling them straight out into the flowerbed with no ceremony and the next month they are climbing the walls and sneaking through the double glazing. I literally just push the seeds in wherever I fancy a nasturtium.
I will not be growing them this year as they were too invasive.
