young codger, I have one hose in each of my 2 polytunnels, so I just connect the mains to it at the door, rather than having to drag one hose from one tunnel to the other.

My "allotment" area is about 100m from the tap so I'm going to connect all my old hoses together and run them round the perimeter of the garden so I can just leave it in place. and the others will be used on a reel to water the garden around the house.

The 9 I bought last year were in addition to the 3 I bought the previous year. You can never have too much hose, surely? image

Darn you YC, just spent a small fortune on seeds! And compost. And some pots. And a sprayers. And maybe some other bits... image

  • Sparkles-The only thing that I saw in there that was half price were the seeds. I paid full price for the square pots I got.

I have made a mental note of what Kitty2 advises about going in prior to Halloween-I guess that will mean visiting the shop some time in September? The good thing about them pots/trays etc Kitty, is that they don’t have a shelf life like the seeds do.

Hostafan1 is certainly making good use of his bargains. I once bought a "quality" thick walled hose from LBS. I used to leave it outside all the time. It would have been difficult to coil up due to the heavy duty material.

I was in Wilko again yesterday hoping to stock up on bargain wallflower seeds for next year, but there were none, regardless of brand. I didn`t notice a label where there had been some either. Plenty of other seed types (see pic).

I usually stock up on other bits as I don't go very often, it's a bit of a hassle with two small people.

Yeah, half price seeds seem to have finished, probably clearing out some stuff for Spring?

Hmm they seem to have sold out of a lot online too.

It certainly is a case of right place, right time aym. I think November is too late, they would be clearing Halloween out for Christmas stuff by then.

Most stores like wilko, b&m etc have the gardening stuff in an area designated as "seasonal stock" which changes on a pretty predictable schedule throughout the year.

Gardening starts expanding in March after mother's day is over and stays for most of the summer. In August they start to reduce it's size to make room for back to school and have some moderate reductions. It's September when silly season kicks in, out comes the Halloween display followed by Christmas, then Valentine's day, then Mother's day, then Easter, then Fathers day and it's come full circle to start all over again.

If you can get your head around the pattern you can predict when the sales are going to be, the retailers have masses of stock piling up in the stockrooms for the next phase so they need to clear the shelves to make room.

By the way, I don't work for them, I'm just a savvy shopper who loves a bargain. image

I've missed out because of dithering as well aym image

Now I check if I can return for a refund if I change my mind and consider my new purchase at home with a cup of tea.

  • I’d say Kitty2 is spot on with the "timings" of stock change. I think I will enroll her as my virtual bargain locator. ( I’m currently trying to source some more walling stone in the S,Yorks area, but not willing to pay the silly money being asked) £30-to £50 per sq meter. HOW MUCH!!

Just a quick heads up for anyone interested.

Popped out to the bank and somehow ended up in wilkos image

The gladioli were £1, freesias 75p and the hostas £1.50.

Only small reductions but I'm going to stick my neck out and predict that the prices will drop further next week as window on the packet reccomended planting times closes.

I got my bags of begonia corms for 50p three years ago. They still had loads of those left today along with dahlias, Lilliy's etc.

Edit.....there were only 3 packs of hostas left and the other two were shrivelled so don't forget to check before you buy.
