I'm still digging and pulling ....... They're thugs and have grown through many of my border plants - I hate the dirty smudgy off white/pinkish hybrids and the insipid blues that are pretending to be bluebells. I've given up the digging for now and I'm pulling leaves as and when as things are starting to come through the borders. Did I also say that I hated all Spanish bluebells?
Unless you completely nuke the area , you'll always have the Spanish.. They will just keep popping up , seeds will be everywhere and they hybridise with our bluebell.

I don't try. I know when I'm beaten
In the sticks near Peterborough
this is Spanish blue bell note the blue anthers inside the 'bell'
also note the stripe on the leaves
this is English blue bell, see the darker blue almost purple colour, the anthers inside the more tubular flower are yellow
and the drooping tip of the flower stem, Spanish are usually much more upright almost looking like a leggy hyacynth
thought i'd add pictures for those out there that don't know the difference
Thanks treehugger
I stuck the ones I dug up this year in a pot, felt a bit mean to bin them after they'd worked so hard to get to the surface.
The flowerheads are just starting to show, now I can check when they fully bloom.
I have a feeling they're mostly Spanish though.
mine are Spanish - poo
The trouble is Hazel - they hybridise with the English ones and sooner or later will take over a patch ....... and we'll lose the English ones.
