Security hedge in partially shady area
in Talkback
Hi all. My garden is woodland at the back third, and the back and right back fence border with the local park. The fence line is peppered with trees (under preservation order). I need to find a pretty and spiteful plant that will grow thickly, providing privacy and security from the park. (I have young children). The plant needs to grow in partly shaded conditions. I considered europaeus (Common Goarse). Can anyone suggest something suitable please?

pyracantha or berberis perhaps
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Second the Berberis, they're vicious. Had to remove lots of brambles from an overgrown one once, two of the prickliest plants I've ever come across together! Plant thorny roses through it all and you're well on your way to a great security barrier.
I like variegated holly on boundaries, as well as hawthorn
You do know that legally if you tell anybody about a potential problem, you are entirely liable if they hurt themselves?
I found B. Julianne had the most severe thorns and B. Ottawensis Superba was the tallest.
gooseberries? you'll even get fruit off them in autumn!
Were you going to grow a Mahonia tree from a seed, Aym, you must be very young
