As for the hot water, tjat is just for mixing the recipe, you have to let it cool down before applying to the plants

I do take into account what dove has said though....and only use it as as a spot killer
Garlic emulsion is good for aphids. Or rather, is bad for aphids and hence good for getting rid of them. And sawfly larvae on gooseberries too.
I would do more to encourage pest predators rather than just kill everything in sight - as pansyface said - what bug?

Which bugs are you having a problem with?
It's only a recipe - you don't have to use it.
