Unsure about growing this climber
hi, has anyone got one of these, I've just been given this plant and although I have a large garden I'm a bit unsure if I can or want to deal with such a large growing climber.
i have arches but they have clematis, and whisteria and large rambling roses on them so I'm thinking this might be a regret in the future.
Any advice would be welcome.

I've got one. It grows in a place where roses or clematis would struggle. It's huge with not much to show for it.
In the sticks near Peterborough
Hi, thanks nutcutlet, appreciate your reply.
hi 1Runnybeak1,
I think you have hit the nail on the head, although I love most plants, my instinct is to pass this on to someone else.
The photoes I have seen look lovely but I think I have enough pruning to do without adding another to my list. Thanks I appreciate your reply.
Here was mine, it grows this much from the Spring when it was cut right down. It's was in throes of being cut right down again and ventually out. It will cover a shed in one season though. I like the the flowers, it's just so big.
edited to add, it's not a climber.
I can't believe it! I tried to grow this at my previous house in clay soil, full sun and got some spindly pathetic looking growth followed by death. The second one died too so I always assumed this plant wasn't very hardy......until now. I don't normally kill outdoor plants.
A client of mine had one and I regularly had to pull lengths of young growth which found their way below roof tiles .
Unless it has masses of space, I'd not grow it. I respect the contrary opinions of others though.
You're right Hosta, I I hadn't have kept cutting it, and that's twice a year I don't know how big it would have grown, it's about 12 ft there, and it was cut down in the spring.!
I planted one against a wall last year. It's 2 feet tall now, I'm waiting with bated breath.
Good luck with that one Lizzie, you can see the growth on mine in just a few months, The bit at the bottom is where I had started to cut it away, it had grown right out to the greenhouse, monster!
