Richard, will seeds from any of the  Texensis  group come true.?

Lyn, have you got designs on my Kate? image

I've also got Duchess of Albany, very similar to Diana.

You know you're most welcome to help yourself when the time comes.

  • Hah !!,  Yes, I imagine Kate was well vetted before being allowed into Royal circles, and rightly so.

Lyn, no, the seedlings from the Texensis Group cultivars will not be the same as the seed mother parent, that is the fun bit of growing new clematis from seed, the waiting to see the first flower unfurl, this is how new cultivars are born.

I have a new cultivar, Texensis Maxima, where Princess Diana was used as 1 of the parents, the flowers are much bigger and more profuse than Princess Diana.

These are just a few of my texensis hybrids grown from seed, none have been Registered but they are all superb garden plants.

  • Aym, best with seedlings is not to overwater or overheat them, as soon as mine are pricked out from the seeding compost I put them on the cold greenhouse floor into compost with nitrogen added, it is very tempting to keep adding water but best in my opinion to try and follow nature.

Clematis are very slow, though, from sowing seeds to first flowering can be 5 years,

Which red viticella did you take seeds from ?

    Richard.

thank you for info Richard.  That was what I thought. I love your red/yellow one, so pretty.

aym, what made you think Hosta had a nursery business ?

I took some of your Kate Hosta and your pale blue one, will be sowing them soon. Seems I need to get some vermiculite.
