They are one of my failures, Primrose that is, not GC Primulas,  I just can't get the seeds to germinate, tried two winters running and not one came up. Seems they are best doing it for themselves.

  • If you can purchase or beg one or two plants from a kind gardener, within a few years you should have a few plants of your own - they seem to spread quite easily once the plants have established.

  • Personally I would say it is still too cold to plant out - what do others think? If the plants were outside at Dobbies then perhaps they would be alright to go straight out into the ground - but if they were kept inside in the shop then I would keep them in a cool place - not in a heated room - perhaps a cold frame or cold greenhouse until the weather warms up a bit. I am finding that this cold weather (strong north east wind here) is too cold for planting.

good point re if they've been indoors GD. But all the ones I've seen in GCs have been outside.

If they were outside and the ground isn't frozen, ours hasn't been frozen at all yet, plant them.

Lyn, I've got some self seeded ( couple of years ago ) in a pot where I've got a Hosta ( big surprise ) which needs splitting.

Would you like me to pot them up for you ? You can collect them next time you're round.

    Devon.

I do have hundreds of them all over the garden but wanted to try the seeds for fun,as Hortico says,  I think perhaps they are best grown straight out of the plants, not kept until winter.

Don't worry Hosta, it was just a try really.

The tall ones  you gave me are shooting up now.
