I promised that I would put some pics of the late flowering daffs and tulips that I planted 2nd week of January! For this, you must have new soil/compost though as they need a bit of a boost. They are later than those have I have in the ground but the advantage is that as the others are going over, I have these just out. I am expecting the tulips to be out this week is the lovely nice weather continues.
Stephen - you should not worry you will,get flowers. The only reason you won't is you have poor soil or you damaged the roots.
This year I had a broken foot at the end of 2016 so alliums only got planted in January! At the end of March there is a lot of leaf growth and I am hoping for flowers.
Similarly tulips, daffodils and hyacinths were planted at the same time. They miniature daffs are over as are some of my tulips (!!) Hyacinths are flowering beautifully and more tulips in bud. Perhaps its been the warm weather. Even my summer iris are sprouting early (but planted last year)

My alliums all grew last year! :-) :-)
