Well Verdun, thanks for that suggestion. I bought a load of special £1.99 offer tiny plants early feb, planted them on as you suggested, and now I have shedloads of big plants in pots ready to plant out soon, that I know they are selling for £7.99 at the same place. You saved me a load of money in populating my new garden. Great advice image

I noticed my local Wyevales had some out this weekend. Looked like there would be more joining the selection so I shall give it a couple of weeks and go an investigate what's on offer

I second Aym's sentiment about Wyevale, certain nurseries & DIY stores are 3x cheaper than that place. Look at B&Q, Homebase, Morrisons, ALDI & Lidl when the time comes

I purchased, an Aquilegia x McKana hybrid, Rudbeckia goldsturm & an echinops ritro. If you are ever around Surrey or Berkshire, I highly recommend Longacres, voted no. 1 garden centre in the country and incredibly good quality plants at a reasonable price! Also, It's massive, you can get lost in heaven for a day image Where is Verdun? I miss his advice around here

  • My husband and I recently moved and there is nothing much in the garden so we are buying a lot of smaller plants in 9cm pots and potting them on and saving quite a bit of money in the process. Also sowing quite a few seeds too

I bought a stipa tenuissima in a pot that's probably slightly larger than 9 cm, but it's still half the size (and the price) of any I could find last summer, so I'm pleased. I'll put it in a big container with the echinaceas I got last year at Hyde Hall. If they've survived the winter and the slugs, that is.

I've recently moved and have a Wyevale right on my doorstep but I'm busy investigating all plant buying options in my area - much to the annoyance of my other half! image
