Could i butt in and ask if any of you folks feed your hellebores after planting or at the end of the season. Mine flower nicely but do not grow to any great size. Should i be doing znything other than putting on homemade compost.
Thzt side of my garden is in semi shade. Morning sun. The soil neutral/clay but i did sieve the soil before planting. The plants are 2 years old. Does not dry up too much. Will try the mushroom compost. Thank you so much Verdun.
I feed mine, when I chop the leaves off, in December. I think it gives flower production a boost. I also use leaf mould in Spring, when flowering is over.
probably all witch craft, but seems to work for me.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
I've got a H. ericsmithii 'Snow Love' (that's a H. Niger type isn't it?) which was plonked in the west facing bed by the front door sort of behind a Sarcocca a couple of years ago and it's grown to about four times its size and has been flowering its socks off for a couple of months and has loads more buds to come. It probably benefits from the fertiliser and summer soakings given to the clematis nearby, but it gets no special treatment.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
