Hello , dahlias , I have a dahlia bed up at the allotment and I don't dig them up , just mulch over winter Did have some once that I dug up but they just went mouldy so have not bothered since
obelixx ,I grow all mine each year from seed, then they are planted out in tall planters. This way they don't get munched by slugs and I don't have to worry about lifting and overwintering them.........which from past experience proved how hopeless at it I was!
Much too cold here in a normal winter so I have to lift them and store them. That part is fine but tedious. Bringing them back to growth is also fine but tedious as there is no room in the greenhouse then so I have to keep them at the front of the garage and open its door every day so they get light once they start to shoot.
I may well end up sowing Children from seed and then I can keep the colours I like and give away the others. Milder winters in new garden so they can go in the ground and stay there once big enough.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

If you didn't plant the lighter one it'll have seeded in from somewhere. It'll be the 'common' one that grows anywhere!
Your darker one is very nice - looks a bit like mine, which are Black Knight, planted a couple of years ago once I'd created a border along my new boundary fence.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

The recent hot weather has finally brought mt buddleias out. They had lots of butterflies on them earlier.
Lovely flyfifer. Mine are just about to start opening up - and I'll have a wall of dark purple

Yes Fairygirl the purple one appeared 2 years ago probably a freebie from the birds. Do the birds in fact spread them. ?
Love the harebell/sweet pea combo Fairy! I have harebells growing through Carex 'Frosted Curls' and they seem quite happy.
