A lot of people are new to gardening and need programmes such as GW to get ideas, help, advice and inspiration. To see plants and designs and techniques.

I use books and magazines more than TV but, I really like watching GW with Monty and Carol. My wife looks forward to watching Nigel, and Carol visiting other places.

I came on this site because I believed that as we all have gardening in common, it would be great place to be. After reading some comments, and not just on this thread, I think that the garden gnomes are being replaced by garden trolls. Its not what I expected so I won't be coming back on here.

If you want sound, practical advice presented in an efficient and friendly manner and with a good factsheet available you should watch Beechgrove which is a long standing programme from Scotland now available nationwide on BBC2 on Sunday mornings.  It packs in an amazing amount of info without seeming hurried and they do useful trials of growing methods and plants.

If you want a quiet half hour to sit with a  glass of wine and just relax without being challenged then GW fits the bill.   Monty's is a knowledgeable gardener but his garden and his weekly projects have little relevance to small gardens and new gardeners.   The best bits now are the external visits to specialist growers, other gardens and Carol's new gardeners.   NIgel is a nice dog but he's an unnecessary distraction in a programme which already has far too lottle content from the main presenter.

Steve, Take another look at all the threads and see how quickly the true gardeners respond to the new people with questions and gently explain. We are not riddled with trolls though the odd person should stop and think before giving an answer, we may have had the same question time after time but those people who ask often do not know how to search the board for previous answers and to them it is important. Patience is needed when asked how things should be done and I for one will not see a genuine question go unanswered, we have a good set of posters who know how to sort out the odd sharp answer so please do not write the board off in a huff.

Well said Frank and obelixx image voices of reason.

I've been using the forum for many years before posting and read and seen some daft things (still do) but always common sense prevails, thank goodness image

Many thanks phillipa, Verdun and palais, but my grief was not with the quality of help and advice on here, which is exceptional, but the way some people seem to have a personal hatred of MD and GW. I find both informative and amusing, which in half an hour is quite success. I like everything about the programme, so does my wife, even though I only grow non-edibles and a good chunk of the programme is about veg, we still watch and enjoy. Your positive remarks have obviously restored my faith in the 'true' gardeners. Thank you all x.

I like MD, GW and Nigel! There's room for them all on my telly.

Well it is call Gardeners World...not Strictly Just Gardening. Nigel is a part of Montys gardening world and the show shares that with us, which makes us very lucky as Nigel is a personal Pet. I remember Alan Titchmarsh's cat which was equally as lovely.
