There were hilarious bits and informative bits and silly bits and some firm friendships made. We had days out on a magic bus and escapes down tunnels to avoid trolls and a garden gallery and plant and seed trials. It was good.
So are these boards - just different.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
"The price good men (and women) pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men (and women)."
I was on the old Beeb board (under a different name) for a while but left because of trolling and bullying - not affecting me but it ruined the forum for everyone.
I know this forum's not perfect, but it's as near as dammit (and the new improved version will be even better) and is, IMHO the best there is for gardeners
I understand the reason for the tone of Verdun's reply - other forums have been targeted by the same trolls who targeted the BBC forum, especially at weekends, bank holidays and Christmas breaks when there are few Mods around to deal with them.
However, I don't think that Mollis is one of them
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Didn't think there was anything wrong with your post Verdun - just thought you were being 'careful' - nothing wrong with that.
Think Mollis has been posting here for a while with no signs of malign intent - however, there have been some difficulties lately and some of us are feeling just a little bruised, even if we're tough old birds

You may see disagreements, mollis. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
I often disagree with Verdun on certain plants. What may be invasive in the sunny southwest is likely to need a heated greenhouse for the winter, cossetting and big pots, up here in the Midlands. It doesnt mean that either of us is wrong, it just depends on circumstances. We certainly don't resort to name calling because someone dares to offer an alternative viewpoint.
Verdun and I have had prickly exchanges, but we aren't trolls, hope we are friends. People are all different and Verdun and I spoke out about things we care about. But trolls upset people for fun.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I was on on the old Beeb board and was very disappointed when it closed. I enjoyed the chatter and remember the 'Northern Boarders' visit to Harlow Carr, with personal tour from Matthew Wilson, and meeting others by arrangement at Tatton. But this board has somehow a more cohesive feel to it, and a feeling that while genuine enquiries and differences will be gladly dealt with, stirrers are really not welcome and will receive a similar response from all the regular posters.

Days out on a magic bus sound good. These days we borrow the tardis, round up various members and spend the odd silly night in verduns cabin.
Sorry about spammers and trolls, but I think every forum gets them.

As I used to tell my children, one of the marks of a civilised and sophisticated society is the ability to disagree without arguing
I think one of them listened to me - eh Wonky?
