I think it's worrying that you're not even attached to the other house by a party wall, yet you have this issue. Is anyone else around you having the same problem?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I think that's sometimes the problem, people with tight budgets see them as a way of cutting down on fuel bills, and can't afford an expensive installation bill either
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Well, we've just had a word about the log burner, I was so surprised at how hard face they where with us, they said the smell isn't coming from them, she said, I've been outside and I can't smell anything , and said it must be coming from some where else ha, we told her when they have there fire burning, there smoke is coming straight through our vents and chimney, but they wasn't having it .so if they won't listen then we will have to go to environmental health.
Could it be they are burning damp wood? If they are they are in for a deal of trouble.
Wood for a log-burner must be very dry, not any old stuff you happen to forage. The chimney will tar up in no time and they will have to sweep the chimney frequently or they will have a chimney fire! Our neighbours down the road - not country folk - didn't know that and had two chimney fires and expense when they had repairs to carry out.
I have just read this post, I do hope everything works out for you flumpy. We have a wood burner and the chimney is lined. When it is lit you can't see any smoke coming from the chimney. I can not understand why people today have to be so horrid, if you were our neighbour and said that to us there would be no problem at all, it would be sorted. Some people have no consideration for others at all, it is so sad. Good luck Flumpy.

Fairygirl, the two houses to my left are empty, so no one else is suffering, in fact I can smell now
