    A wally is the large  green pickle you get in the chippy. Pickled what, l don't know as I've never fancied trying it.

    Or a Mr Bean - type.

    I think you're right about the ceramic link Hosta. I'm sure I've heard that false teeth were originally made of ceramic or porcelain.
