I love Christmas! Can I just say that again - I LOVE Christmas. True, it is different now: my parents are long dead, my kids grown up but the family still get together and we have a lovely time. And it has to be said that in the past, when I did all the cooking, the Father Christmas thing, all the shopping, wrapping, card writing, most of the decorating (OH workaholic so never around!) and everything else, I was shattered! It's much more restful now and I get to sit down from time to time!
Lily - as Dove has discovered, Paddy from home is exactly the same as her Ring on a String game .....the only embellishment being that you sing a meaningless ditty whilst you play ("Paddy from home has never been, a railway train hes never seen, he likes to watch the great machines as they travel along the railway"). Its a game that has been passed down from my Grandad's family, and he was Norfolk born and bred...so maybe its an East Anglia thing.
Similarly Tippet ....where two teams of 3 or 4 people sit on either side of a dining room table. One team hides a coin in one of the players hands and they then all put their clenched fists on the table - then the other team guesses where the coin is, by choosing hands to take away. When they think they know where the coin is they "tippet". You keep score of which ream wins using a pile of matchsticks.
Both came from more simple times ....but if they are only played once a year they still cause quite a giggle. Tippet, in particular, requires a very good Poker face
As much as I'm a misery at doing all the Xmas at mum's again I think I will resurrect the connect 4 challenge, don't think mum is up to Tequila roulette
Being brutally honest, all Christmas means to me is the opportunity to have a few days away from work and a job I hate! Thankfully I retire in a couple of months anyway.
