You might try your local garden centre who might,at this time of year, be throwing out their 'old' seeds, most of which will still  be viable.

Failing that, if you tell them you're going to sow a 'community garden' they might let you have them for (next to) nothing.

  • Thanks Edd for explaining.

Didn't see any of the quotes, but shame whole thread was removed rather than just one or two posts.......if it was really necessary.  But hopefully we can just carry on now.  Always love our friendly banter and how everyone is always there for each other when needed.

Just read the thread and going back to Verdun's post...Re;Bee's I purposely grew more flowers on the plot to cut and to atttract the good guy's. We have at least two bee keepers on the allotments and the flowers I planted were buzzing all summer. Dahlia's, gladioli and nasturgum were like magnets. Sunflowers didn't attract as many but flowering herbs did.

I plan to have a whole bed next year for flowers to cut. As well as attracting bee's they are good ground cover, stopping the weeds from growing and they help to pollinate the fruit, beans and pea's. Added to the flowers already mentioned for next yr are early spring bulbs and foxglove. The bulbs are already putting out shoots.

"We cant have one person making judgements like that ....sorry Dove but you were out of order there."

Sorry but I can never get the quote thing to work properly.  Dove raised her concern with the moderator(s) which she/he is completely entitled to do.  Dove did not remove the topic.

The moderator(s) do, and must, have the ability to remove content which they believe breaks the rules of the site.  There is no requirement on them to explain their actions although in this case they have decided to do so.

As you might have guessed, I also undertake moderator activities on a site, not a plant / garden related one.  If the mods there spotted a problem early on, and it's practical just to remove the original offending post, they might simply edit the topic to remove that part.  Once you get to the stage of multiple 'problem' posts, total removal is often the only practical solution.

No mischief Verdun.  Simply making some observations from the viewpoint of a site moderator.  I haven't read the entire thread so if other posts made after the one I quoted changed the atmosphere of the thread that's unfortunate.  That wouldn't change the basic observations I made.

    Re bees,

There has been a lot of honey bees both in the allotment and garden this year, if fact even though it has been cold wet and windy they have been lots on the flowering ivy along my rear boundary fence!

Also one of the allotment holders has been selling honey at a local market as he says he has had a bumper crop this year!

Ps did not have as many butterflies this year though!

    .

Where I work, if some one has not verbally abused you within half an hour of starting work, you start to think everyone has fallen out with you!

This is not bullying this is banter about football or anything else for that matter!

But this  only applies to males not females!

Hope this is not censured for offending the little darlings! image
