Another 'whose poo is this' question

I know I have badger(s) and muntjac visiting my garden and almost certainly fox(es) but not sure which is leaving a calling card.  Apologies for rather revolting pic.

  • My guess is a fox.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • Looks more like badger to me and with all those seeds and berries.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Meant to say - looked a bit 'veggie' to me for a fox. Maybe you're in a very upmarket, Notting Hill type area Dyer's End - hipster foxes....  image

philippa - I thought that too (the nuts and berries)  - glad it's tea and oatcakes I'm having just now....image

I didn't notice a smell but I only spotted it this afternoon so had been there for a while and I haven't got a dog (only 2 cats) so no help re id from them - I'm told dogs can't resist rolling in fox poo.

Never heard of the coffee beans pansy and quite happy in my state of ignorance.  Imagine recovering them, image

Not at all Notting Hill Fairygirl and I'm not sure what a fox would be looking for in my garden as I don't feed the birds because of the cats. There is no access to my neighbours' gardens from mine either although both sides do have bird feeders so I'm surprised that he/she chooses mine rather than theirs.  Both have dogs though. He/she is obviously coming from the field at the end of the garden.

I had a very similar present about a week ago but much nearer to the house.

Oh dear Hosta image  Poor civets.

  • I spotted some similar poo in my garden yesterday. Although I do have a dog it doesn't look like his (you do get used to your dog's poo!!). It was full of red berries which I know my dog doesn't touch. We have in the past had foxes in our garden but not badgers yet. Perhaps we now have?

Whatever produced that lot obviously doesn't chew its food very well, which probably points to a carnivore.  Badgers, unlike foxes, have a large cheek tooth adapted for chewing but that doesn't mean it did.

Whatever plants it ate have clearly succeeded in distributing their seeds!
