I know what y mean about yellow foliage and pink flowers yuk.
This one has soft leaves that are dull and a particularly boring shade of nondescript green. It might be a spirea I suppose but it will be compost when I get round to it
I'm like PP, hate throwing out good plants and it's hard here, as I'm grateful for anything that will put up with my conditions, not like Verdun who can pretty much take his pick!
Don't like golden rod so never bought it, agree on the spiraea thing. I grew penstemon Sensation from seed and they are a mainstay of my late summer border, cheery, not too tall and good green foliage. Crocosmias I like, but now have far too many of the ordinary one, so that is getting thrown out bit by bit. Some of the new ones are much better. Lucifer is great but finding it hard to find more places for it!
Most of the things I need to throw out are plants I like, but that have been too successful, and some are needed less as the garden has evolved. I had to throw out most of my shrubs because of rampant honey fungus, so I like euphorbia griffithii for the way it sculpts itself into a summer hedge and looks good right up to the end, but it does need curtailing. Persicaria campanulata is really pretty and flowers nonstop until the frosts. Mine hardly spread at all for about 10 years, but now there's no stopping it - luckily it's easy to pull out. My turtle head is doing really well and looks good, so need more space for that and for the campanula lactiflora, a safer bet than delphiniums for summer blues, with the winds we get here. And the geraniums and astrantias and so it goes on ... and on...!
Golden Rod, didn't plant it inherited it, but I loath it, thought I had got rid of it but a couple of stray shoots popped up this year.
Thinking of replacing my Lavatera, still like it but would like to plant something a bit more interesting.
Jap Anemones, a never ending task trying to eradicate them.
Comfrey, a really boring plant that pops up absolutely everywhere despite my endeavours to get rid of it (and I really dont care that it makes a good fertilizer)
I have three Astilbes in my dustbowl garden that are going next year. I've pretty much removed everything that bothered me once, a diseased Escalonia, an ugly Weigelia, an old old buddelija. ..All gone to plant heaven
The replacements have included Pittospurnums, box balls and Nandina. I much prefer foliage as the majority these days

Just looked it up. It's spirea billiard pink spike in case anyone wants to avoid it.

Good luck with that if it's the pink one with really deep roots. It's a life's work keeping next door' s out of my garden!

I did actually buy my golden rod, but didnt realise it was such a monster, and really has limited interest / flowering.
