Lyn yours is soooo like it in a picture but it's not quite as thick looking as mine is. Tomorrow I will post some close up of the leaves showing the purple backs
My is red and white and is from a cutting this year and is in flower. I am looking forward to seeing it grow into a bushy plant next year (Salvia Jamensis Hotlips)
I do like your Black and Blue - will try and get it too. Does it overwinter outside?
I think it could be doubtful that it will overwinter, Anita, I have done a few cuttings and will pile a load of compost on then hope. I think the hot pink one will, it has leaves like the Hotlips and they survive ok.
i don't think the red one will survive, I've already brought it in.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
I don't take chances here as winters can be hard, but Hotlips has survived outside for 2or 3 years. I think the weather affects its flower colour. The first year I had it, it was red for ages, then red and white and only went white in the autumn. This year it has been mostly white - says something about the 'summer' perhaps!
I've got Amistad and a hot pink called Neon and a wonderful blue, African Sky (or Skies, seen both names!) This last one has small glossy leaves and is quite brittle - the hens kept knocking bits off, so as a result I have lots of cuttings It looked fantastic next to my crocosmia Severn Sunrise for weeks on end. I love them all - Neon made a great companion for echinacea Bravado and Amistad is almost a shrub in size so adds some backbone to all the airy, wafty things, amazing colours too. I want to get another pineapple sage and I'm on the lookout for others as I love the whole family now, it's like an addiction!

Haven't grown 'Hotlips' Verdun, but I do have a nice pot of 'Hot Trumpets', which is lovely all summer .... just couldn't resist the name!

No one mentioned S. Amistad, or S. nemorosa Caradonna, both real beauties.
