Garden Design Software

The majority of people are happy using paper and pencil as most software is either very basic, or it's expensive, and more complicated to operate, for the types professionals use.

You don't need to keep amending using paper - you use tracing paper over a basic, pre printed layout. It can be as simple or as complicated as you need it be, as long as it's to scale. image

  • I thought I had made it clear that I already know about pencil and paper but it is software that I want. I'm looking for recommendations of types of software. I really, really don't want to use pencil and paper even if the rest of the world uses it happily.

If you use the site search facility, you'll find that this has been asked a number of times over the last few years and no-one here has ever been able to recommend anything.  Try google.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

A brief overview of the answers to your question including one from a previous thread:-

"The concensus seems to be that there is nothing out there at a reasonable price that would suit the amateur gardener."

"My OH is a software writer and when I asked him to write something for me he said anything that would be of any use would be too complicated for me to operate."

"Had a software prog bought as present have to say never got past trying to put boundaries in;I'm far from a Luddite( teach in secondary school DT dept) just the design programmes all seem to be to overcomplicated and take the fun out of planning."

"most software is either very basic, or it's expensive, and more complicated to operate, for the types professionals use."

"Some of the 3D CGI's we see on gardening progs are very impressive but I'm sure the software has a very impressive price tag too."

People are answering your question honestly and from their own experiences.

Perhaps this is wrong forum for you then Sharon. Maybe you need a computer orientated one.

As the others have said - we were only offering our thoughts. image

    See original post

Indeed they do, especially in the world of technology, apps and software. You've asked a perfectly reasonable question so hopefully you'll get some constructive input in time.

I've just received a PM from this poster. Clearly, I've rattled her cage in some way because I didn't give the answer she wanted.
