I'd agree with Hosta - technically, the neighbour has to prove you've done something illegal, not you proving otherwise. I'd still have all the info gathered and a lawyer ready to send a letter. Don't let them bully you. Some people can just be vile.

Looking at penguin' s pics, by the time it got to court, the hedge will have grown back anyway! Delay as much as you can and take pics of growth as it happens. Did it actually scratch your car? If it did, a couple of extortionate quotes for a paint job wouldn't go amiss either.

  • The land registry will give you a plan of the boundary line for a small fee. Who owns what etc. have a look on their web site and see what is available. Your deeds should show you as well. Lawyers letters cost a lot of money. I would keep everything, list and date everything said and avoid confrontation. Buy for time would be what I would do. We are all rooting for you.
  • Thanks everyone for the advice and support its nice to know that others feel you are in the right too.

Hosta, you're right, of course, about not "chucking" the cuttings back.  It was just a figure of speech really... though is it fly tipping if you're giving him back his own property?  Not that it matters, just musing... image

Good luck, Mark.  You're definitely in the right.
