my 1st strawberry patch

    I have flowers on my Strawberry plants too. It has been mild here in Sussex but things are not so good today. Gale force winds and its a bit nippy. 

  • still doing ok and pinched out any flowers that came, they have done ok with the frosts we had in kent

    weed sheet ripped off in the winds we had recently.

     

    now to add mulch, compost and some fish/bone around each plant and replace the sheet

    they look like coming along quite well

    sometimes it takes me two goes on phone to upload a pic, don't know why as it's annoying having to write the thread again on phone image

    nah choosing on android phone said too large, choosing another of smaller size then nothing happened.

    i now have big red starwberries appearing and some slightly deformed ones

    hoped i wouldnt get bird problems but seems ive had a few chomped

    i dont really want the faff of nets so will just try a wind chime with some foil strips attached

    whens best time to pick, early morning?

    i picked a few large ones last night and wife tasted, i dont actually like them... she enjoyed

    a few nibbled ones and odd shaped ones but some also big ones

    how long will they fruit for ?

    lots of rain this last week, mad amount.  as such many of my strawberries have rotted

    the weed membrane was not a good enough solution so ill have to switch to straw.

    but have had some nice big strawberries, trying to teahc my daughter she cannot just pick and eat. was and check etc.

    so maybe grab some straw at the weekend and hope we have anothr crop to come through the summer
