i will plant when arrive in a pot (quite a large one i have i think to match my others) but i am thinking the pot will look very bare until the lily's come through next summer.
is there anything that can grow in there with it for now and not be in the way when the lily's come through?
thanks

so spring flowers that then die down for summer lily?
i have other tulips in garden so maybe an idea
or a mix
the pot i have is about 2ft deep which will look ok with large lilys but unsure of others
I'm doing a similar thing to Verdun's suggestion. Hadn't thought of tulips though and as I have obelisks for my tall lilies I'm stuffing in some sweet peas for later in the year when the lilies are going over. My pots are outside the sunroom so I'll get the fragrance as well if I'm lucky.
and that will all sit around the tall lilys ok?
ok thanks, i need to start a plan then
need something cascade over like an ivy and then something like you said of similar/contrasting colours to the lily in summer
preferably something there all year and a flower shown at different times of year and maybe staying in summer at the base whilst the lilys go up tall
still learning my plants
im thinking purples and whites, varigated ivy going over then the dark lilies to come through
the cascading needs to be not too much and take over the pot too quickly
i need to look at a few ideas, looking at some more purple tulips on ebay as we speak
so maybe 5 lilies staggered at back of pot and tulips in the middle then some osteospermums near the front and some ivy and maybe something else right at the front/side cascading over
cascading being all year
spring some violas at front until tulips push in middle
so in summer have a shorter flower near front and large dark lillies behind
then not much in autumn and winter apart from the cascading.... ?
throw your ideas at me peeps
